Bombers - Als trade

Postby Rids on Fri Feb 26, 2010 4:17 pm

I don't remember an off season with so many deals. This is getting wild and the Als just got a bunch stronger.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have acquired non-import defensive end Stan van Sichem from the Montreal Alouettes in exchange for import defensive end Gavin Walls.

Walls is a pretty good player, so unless this is a salary dump the Bombers must think a lot of this kid.

Apparently the Als and Gavin Walls were attempting to re-negotiate the contract and couldn't come to terms.

Wonder what this means for the trade? You would think Bombers still owe Al's something. If Al's didn't have some arrangement in place for a fallback in case they couldn't get Walls to renegotiate his contract, that would be a huge blunder on their part.

Latest rumour is that Taman in Sask would be interested in Walls.

Its kinda like the Bombers just traded Walls Neg rights to the Als. Montreal had an exclusive window to negotiate a contract with him. Its not unheard of in other leagues.

Sask does seem to be short a DE or two....

Does anybody know if Walls had another year on the contract and the Als were just negotiating the bonus?

Ok Monday mornings are just weird. Montreal has re-signed Gavin Walls today along with Skip Seagraves, both apparently took 1 year contracts with an option year.
